Shaker Run Resident Message Board
There’s something many of us are guilty of, forgetting to clean a household item or two. At the top of the list are the pillows
we sleep on every night.
If you’re looking to bring plants into your home but concerned they might not get enough light in certain areas, like the bedroom when your curtains are closed, check out our list of some hardy plants
that can survive without a lot of natural light.
Trick or treating is an event kids of all ages look forward to every year. As parents, and guardians, there are plenty of factors involved which are cause for concern. We’ve put together a list
to help keep kids safe.
Wishing all of our residents a happy prosperous new year!!!

Attention Tea Lovers - Have you checked out The Whistling Kettle in Troy or The Tailored Tea in Latham????
Well if not, your in for a real treat! The atmosphere, teas, and food are beyond amazing and they are a first choice for many of our residents.
Check out their websites to view all the amazing items they have to offer:
We suggest trying out the snowflake tea with almond, cinnamon and coconut aromas while visiting The Whistling Kettle!
It isn’t that we need to do something heroic.
We don’t need to don a cape and try saving the world!
It’s really just the little things … being mindful of our immediate
surroundings, careful of how we dispose of our trash,
maybe even picking up after someone less attentive.
Every little bit counts!
Every little thoughtful gesture helps!
Thank you for all YOU do!
APRIL FOOL’S DAY – April 1st 2016
How did it all begin? One of my favorite explanations of April Fools' Day was given by Joseph Boskin, who was a professor of history at Boston University. He explained that the practice began during the reign of Constantine, when a group of court jesters and fools told the Roman emperor that they could do a better job of running the empire. Constantine, amused, allowed a jester named Kugel to be king for one day. Kugel passed an edict calling for absurdity on that day, and the custom became an annual event.
“In a way, it was a very serious day,” said the Boston professor. “Back then fools were really wise men … and it was the role of jesters to put things in perspective with humor.”
This explanation was brought to the public’s attention with an Associated Press article that circulated in lots of newspapers in 1983. There was only one catch: Boskin made the whole thing up! And it took a couple of weeks for the AP to realize they’d been victims of an April Fool’s joke themselves.
