3 Mistakes to Avoid When Planning Your Furniture Layout

Shaker Run - Tuesday, May 03, 2016

Time to set up the furniture in your new apartment? Or maybe, you just want to change up your current arrangement. Whatever the case may be, there are a few mistakes that you should avoid making so that your furniture layout is organized, functional, and easy to navigate.

  1. Failing to leave enough walking space. Wouldn’t it be annoying to have to shimmy around your furniture to get through the room? Be sure to leave about three feet of space around the room, as well as three feet of space for any pieces of furniture with drawers that open.
  2. Cluttering entrances. Again, it’s kind of a nuisance to have to maneuver your way around décor and furniture when you walk into a room. Additionally, it could pose a safety hazard in the case of an emergency. Keep entryways free of items like tables or house plants to avoid this issue!
  3. Outlining the room with furniture. Another tendency people have when setting up a living room furniture layout is to push all the couches and end tables up against the walls. BORING! For a more fun, unique look, try a freestanding couch, which can also act as a room divider!

So, next time you’re arranging furniture, keep these tips in mind and avoid these mistakes!
